On Monday, [March 27] afternoon we attended at Sunrise in North Vancouver. It was actually our first time at the office. We signed our last few papers, handed over some more money and watched our documents get ready for Fed Ex. The documents have now officially been sent to CAFAC.
Over the next few weeks, CAFAC will, after compiling everything in some orderly fashion, work at getting all the documents through the hoops in Ottawa. This process can take up to two months. Once that's done, it's off to Ethiopia and we will start our application for immigration of the child to be. Immigration turn around is usually only two weeks.
We had our fourth parenting class tonight. This class was about listening and talking. More specifically it was on reflective listening and I-messages. Most people know what I-messages are, although they are seldmoned used for fear of sounding like patronizing idiots, but most people don't know exactly how to use reflective listening. It is the act of really listening, hearing the feeling and saying what you've heard. It can be mistaken for parroting, but it's a bit different yet. We also had the opportunity to role play body language [as children use this even before they begin to speak]. This type of communication builds respect and strongly helps in discouraging power struggles between parents and children. Although we don't have children to practice on, we are able to see huge differences in the other families there. Again, it was a very good class.
