It's official. A decision has been made regarding the garage sale funds. We feel bad "asking" people for money towards our adoption. We signed up for this adventure not expecting a penny from anyone. But, people are continually saying "you should use the money for yourself - it's so expensive to adopt". So we pondered the 50/50 option with the garage sale funds. But we still felt like the money would be so much better off going to Ethiopia.
The garage sale is coming fast ... SATURDAY MAY 13, 2006! Only one week away today. So we finally made a decision about the funds. Hopefully it pleases all those encouraging us to use the money for ourselves, and it helps us feel better about "taking" money. The money will still be split 50/50. The first half being used for the orphanages. The second half will also be taken with us. It will be used to pay the expenses of having our child in foster care for the three or four months it is in Ethiopia and considered our child, but still residing in a foster home. If people want 100% of the money they contribute to be used for the orphanages, we have no problem doing so!
Please, everyone come out and support this wonderful cause. The garage sale is from 9:00 to 3:00 pm. Even if you don't want to buy things, just come show your support. As we live in complex, there are other townhouses having garage sales the same day so you never know what treasures you may find ... some items we've received to sell include a double stroller, baby clothes, exersaucer, baby clothes, snowboard, baby clothes, tons and tons of toys and computers / printer / scanner etc. Did I say baby clothes? They're mounds high.
Here's a map to our place:
Our House.
We will let everyone know how much is raised for the Orphanages. We have many months ahead of us in this journey and we'll keep a running tally for people to know how much money is going to Ethiopia as the months progress. Money has already started coming in.
AND ... our dossier either left Friday May 5'06 for Africa, or it leaves Wednesday May 10'06.
