Racism can be a touchy subject. It is a sad reality in life, something that a lot of people try to ignore by pretending it doesn't exist. But it does exist. In some areas of the world it is very strong. In other areas it may only exist in the occasional home. Whether racism stems from an generational upbringing or from being bullied by a group of kids at school, it is very wrong. No race is better than the other. No skin color is prettier than another.

We know we will have racism issues to deal with in our future. We are blessed though that we live in a multicultural country and even a multicultural community.
Amazing Grace by Mary Hoffman & Caroline Binch is a wonderful children's book that deals with this exact issue. It is about a young girl that wants to play the part of Peter in the school play Peter Pan. A classmate at school told her she couldn't because she was black. Not only is the book a great story, but the art work and colors are fabulous.

I've seen this before, and find it very sad. My hope is that through our awareness, our hearts and some level of intelligence we can embrace our multicultural identities. For our children and ourselves.
