Parenting with Pizzaz on February 3
Building Skills for Transracial Parenting Part I on February 25
We are also arranging to take a 7 week course starting on February 21. This course is the STEP program [Systematic Training for Effective Parenting].
Lyle's individual appointment with our social worker has been moved to January 13 at 4:00 pm. Mine is still January 20 at 4:00.
We're still reading our little hearts away. Apparently the CAFAC materials have been mailed to us as well. Eli suggested to us they make Cliff notes for all this.
As the seven week course doesn't start until February 21, it sort of extends the homestudy process. The report from the social worker cannot be completed until we have done our "essays" following STEP. Here is a briefing of our remaining timeline:
After we complete all the education, seminars and essays, the social worker will complete her report. We anticipate this to happen sometime in April, latest May. That report will be forwarded to Sunrise. Sunrise completes their package and it is sent to CAFAC in Manitoba. CAFAC puts together what is called the dossier. The dossier goes to Kenya as Canada does not have an Embassy in Ethiopia. Approximately six months later [could be shorter, could be longer] we will receive a child referral from Ethiopia. After meeting with a Canadian physician who will review the medical history of the child etc. we accept / decline the referral. If accepted, immigration papers are completed, visas done, we receive our shots [much to Lyle's dismay] and travel arrangements are made. From the time we receive the refferal to the time we travel to Ethiopia it will be approximately 4 months. Could be shorter, could be longer. We're suspecting an early Spring 2007 bundle of joy.

It makes you wonder if they should put all parents through these sorts of training sessions.
Wow so proud of you guys, you both will make the best parents ever. It really is a pleasure to be friends with u both. Best wishes and greatest of luck with your adventure.
