We received the Country Update from CAFAC today. UGH!! Can we say FULL of bad news?!
Aside from the fact that there has been no movement with respect to court dates, referrals and pick ups in the last month, thereby keeping us at approximately number 29 on the list waiting for a referral, the adoption fees have been substantially increased [in USD] per child.
I understand the increase. It is very thoroughly explained and needed. The main reason is the time between referral and picking up your child has lengthened. You used to be able to pick up your child withing 4 to 6 months after referral. Now, it's generally 6 to 10 months after referral. Fees need to be increased to have the extended care paid for. In addition, inflation rates have destroyed the economy there.
However, it is quite the blow to swallow. Adoptions are ferociously expensive to begin with. But it was only a few months ago that Ethiopia High Courts announced that adoptive parents must attend court. We just wrapped that huge increase in costs around our heads [having to make two trips to Ethiopia per adoption] ... and now to be hit with this.
The frustration is definitely there for us. But, we're not closing the door. We're not walking away. We'll come up with the funds one way or another ... I believe the word is CREDIT! Banks do love adoptive families.
God has and is always faithful and we believe he will continue to provide for this adoption.

Glad that you are public again! Anyway, I'm sorry to hear about the increased costs. The most frustrating part in international adoption is the contrast between the need and the expense. But with God, there is always a way.
